The AM brunch and the Party Down Evening After Your Wedding

So, you're determined to have that mid-July Holden Beach wedding. Okay, we can deal with that because you're on board with some out of the box thinking on how to deal with the heat. Let's say you decide you like the idea of a 9:00am wedding...how do we make that happen? Wedding arbor and white wedding chairs on the beach - no problem. Your arbor decorated in your choice of flowers that coordinate with your colors - no problem. Your bouquets and bouts custom designed by our florist in your choice of colors and flowers -- you betcha! Your photographer captures all of your wonderful moments. A gentle tide free of bugs and high humidity - we cannot promise, but the beach is usually quiet and lovely early. A fantastic brunch prepared fresh by one of our caterers -- guaranteed! You want something like hearty appetizers? How about mimosas, coffee, mini-quiche, bacon bites, southern biscuits, and fresh fruit chunks? What something even more hearty? Add champagne mojitos, freshly cooked waffles, bloody mary's, shrimp and grits casserole...to name a few.

Then...a restful day on the beach with all of your friends and family. Maybe a nap mid-afternoon. When you awake refreshed at 5pm, your Holden Beach Weddings Caterers are back, creating that special dinner. No worries that the pricing is not something you can afford. One of our fantastic DJ's is setting up for an evening of dancing and music. Concerned that your photographer can't capture these evening moments? We can arrange this.

What is the best time to get married at the beach?

We prefer to avoid the months of July and August -- it's just so darned hot and humid then...unless you are considering a morning wedding. In 2010 we began to see temperatures of nearly 100 degrees in mid-June. When it's 100 at Holden, you can bet the humidity will be in the upper 90's. What does that mean for our brides and grooms? Wilted flowers, cranky kids, uncomfortable guests and no one wanting to spend even 5 minutes on the beach waiting for a wedding to begin.

How else does the high heat affect a wedding? The caterer has a very difficult time regulating food temperatures to ensure safe food, the frosting on the wedding cake can melt and keeping beverages cold becomes a major issue.

Okay, so now you've heard about all of the reasons NOT to get married on the beach in the heat of the summer...so what if that's your only option? We offer two suggestions -- (1) get married in the very early morning -- humidity will be low, temperatures will be low, there will be a low risk of a thunderstorm, the beach will be nearly empty, and you can plan a party for the evening. OR, (2) get married around 8:00pm -- with daylight savings, you'll have the daylight you want for those precious pictures. Threats of thunderstorms will be diminished, the humidity tends to decrease during the evenings, and your guests will thank you for not having to sit on that hot beach waiting for you to make your appearance.

NEXT: Brunch for the AM wedding; party down later in the evening.

From Wedding Arbor to Tiki Bar...

All in a couple of easy steps. Fifteen minutes before this picture was taken, our wedding arbor was sitting on Holden Beach as the perfect backdrop to Tori & Scotty's beautiful wedding. We captured the great picture on the right of the wedding -- note Rev. George color coordinated his wedding attire with that of the groom and the groomsmen (he always does that!). The bride's dad wanted a Tiki Bar -- so the arbor was moved to the deck around the pool and five minutes after this picture was taken the arbor was adorned with parrot and palm tree lights, a giant plastic parrot, a hula skirt, and dozens of Chinese lanterns. Sorry none of us thought to take a picture of the finished product...but it was awesome! Tori's dad was thrilled, and to top it off, he had hired a friend to tend bar. The bartender was decked out in a tuxedo - how appropriate for a genuine tiki bar!
